The most important events from 2002 to December 2005:

- Every year since 2002:

The National Cancer Association has been the initiator and active participant in organizing various events in the terms of the national anti-breast cancer campaign. Patron of the national anti-breast cancer campaign is the first lady of The Republic of Bulgaria Zorka Parvanova. Our partners and followers during these three years were Ministry of Public Health; Emilia Maslarova – Minister of Labour and Social Welfare; International Women’s Club; Katty Pardue, the wife of the American Ambassador in Bulgaria; Prof. Ivan Chernozemsky, National Consultant in Oncology; managers of oncology dispensaries throughout the country; The National Cancer Register; The National Oncology Centre; physicians and surgeons; non-governmental organizations; the actors form the National Theatre “Ivan Vazov”; business circles; artists Lyuben Pashkulski, Pavel Mitkov and Aleksandra Karadzova. Pharmaceutical companies such as AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novartis, Roche, Lilly, Pfizer, and The Municipal Bank, The Central Cooperative Bank have been not only our partners, but also financial supporters in all the events organized during these national campaigns.

- Before launching each year’s National campaign The Board of Directors of our patient organization has been kindly invited to the Parliament with the cooperation and support of Emilia Maslarova – Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, members of Parliament and the Health Committee.

- Our yearly working meetings are always held in the presence of Zorka Parvanova The First Lady of Bulgaria, representatives of International Women’s Club (Katty Pardue, Ann Steward, Medy Al Jaburry ), Prof. Chernozemski etc. They usually last for three days and are held in Sofia and Varna – the town where the headquarters of the Association is situated.

- Since 2004 in various settlements of the country a new branches have been registered monthly and have been presented to the society, always supported by the mayor, health manager, MP and other local authorities.


The achievements of BCA are:

2002 – Bulgarian Cancer Association was founded.

2003 – Establishment of the Home of Cancer Patients in Varna. The Home was inaugurated on August 15, 2003, by the First Lady of Bulgaria, Mrs. Zorka Parvanova, and the Mayor of Varna, Mr. Kiril Yordanov. Read more.

2004 – Participation of representatives of BCA in Third ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) Patient Seminar in Vienna, 30-31 October 2004.

2005 – BCA participated in ECCO13 the European Cancer Conference in Paris from 30 October to 3 November 2005 with the documentary film “Lifelong Corridor”. On this forum the Chairwoman and the Vice-Chairwoman of BCA had personal contact with representatives of ECPC - European Cancer Patient Coalition.

From 26 to 28 November as an extension to the personal contacts and preliminary agreements in Paris, BCA was invited to present on the patient forum in Warsaw. After the conference our organization was registered as a member of ECPC.
