Bulgarian Cancer Association - in the name of life, together against the disease

About Us - History
Our Priorities

The first and only of its kind in Bulgaria NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN WITH ONCOLOGICAL DISEASES AND THEIR ADHERENTS – NA WODTA was established in 2002. The organization is a member of the EUROPEAN CANCER PATIENTS COALITION - ECPC

The following people form the initial board of directors : Yana Georgieva, Rumyana Tsarska, Mariyana Parashkevova, Diana Stoyanova and Minka Arabadzhieva.

After four years of hard and unceasing work in the name of the women in Bulgaria, suffering from oncological diseases, the organization gained precious and rich experience in its work with people having this kind of diagnosis.

The flow of patients and their relatives coming to the structures of our organization within the country, has grown incredibly. The number of people suffering from the disease quite recently and patients in remission who look for contacts with our patients’ organizations, raising questions to do with different malignant diseases, increases constantly. A large part of them are patients – men, relatives and parents of children having cancer problems.

This made it necessary in many towns and cities in the country to be established associations of and for oncologically sick people, with no limitations of gender, age and localizations.

There was a serious change in our work and development as a patient’s organization. The expansion and the unification of all organizations was a natural consequence of our growth.

The NA WODTA –NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN WITH ONCOLOGICAL DISEASES and their adherents, /with a little change in the association’s name/ – NAWOD, initiated and united under the motto “IN THE NAME OF LIFE…, TOGETHER AGAINST CANCER” the organizations of patients from 51 towns and cities in Bulgaria in one large-scale organization which shall represent all patients with  oncological diseases.

The unification of the patient’s organizations in one Association is a very significant stage in our development, role and importance.

In this way we will have the actual opportunity to apply for obtaining a Nationally represented statute at the respective institutions and relevantly to be included in the National Council of disabled people’s integration. Thus we will manage to better strengthen the positions of the associations in the country of oncologically diseased people.

The established united “society of people with oncological diseases” in Bulgaria, registered under the name BULGARIAN ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE WITH ONCOLOGICAL DISEASES and their adherents – BAPOD and entered in the register of non-profit legal entities under lot No. 2, volume 40, page 6, under company case No. 404, is with public-beneficial activity. BAPOD will engage the attention of international organizations with similar activity in order to jointly solve common problems. The partnership with them will improve significantly our work and will raise the level of our activity with the tendency to reach European standards for concepts like – patient’s rights,  prevention and early diagnostics, equal access to medicine, modern treatment, social adaptation and integration, raise the quality of life of people with oncological diseases.

THE BULGARIAN ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE WITH ONCOLOGICAL DISEASES STAYS OPEN FOR ALL ORGANIZATIONS OF PATIENTS WITH ONCOLOGICAL DISEASES AND THEIR ADHERENTS IF THEY WISH TO JOIN US.
