Bulgarian Cancer Association - in the name of life, together against the disease

2003 – Establishment of the Home of Cancer Patients in Varna.

If our associations are backed by the local authorities, what we are doing can be developed in the best way nationwide.

The National Association of Women with Cancer is striving to make understood a basic and very important conclusion, namely that joint efforts of NGOs and local governments can bring any socially significant initiative to successful completion.

This is evidenced by the establishment of the Home of Cancer Patients in Varna – the greatest achievement of our national organization. Despite our initiative and the will to carry it through, it would not become a reality without the support and assistance of the local government, in the person of the Mayor.

The Home was inaugurated on August 15, 2003, by the First Lady of Bulgaria, Mrs. Zorka Parvanova, and the Mayor of Varna, Mr. Kiril Yordanov. Having consulting rooms and providing free consultation – medical, psychotherapy, legal, modern methods of cancer treatment, availability of medical supplies, we can be as close to the patient as possible. By engaging specialists from different spheres – psychologists, GPs, legal advisers – to provide free consulting services, and also by our personal experience, we do our best to be useful. We shall work towards the establishment of more such cancer patients centres in Bulgaria. This will make our presence as an organization and our activities still more timely and socially significant.
